Don’t read this yet. I’ll revise the first half and rewrite the second half. Please hold off for now T_T
[Apologies for the late notice]:
The year before graduation has been an absolute mess. Every day, I feel as though I’m drowning in endless anxiety. When I think about it, it seems strange. I’m surrounded by wonderful people, and during this awful time, my friends, teachers, family, and dear readers have given me happiness countless times. But for some reason, I feel as if I’m constantly being tortured by something invisible. I look all around and see no way out. I’ve tried many things to cheer myself up, but nothing has worked. I can’t even cry freely. My terrible mental state has affected this book too. I only recently got back on track, and I’m doing well now. Thank you for worrying about me. I’m sorry to Qingqing and to all of you who have been following the updates. I’ve run out of inspiration for this book for the time being. It’s my fault for not planning the outline properly before I started. I tried hard to sort out the plot and characters, but couldn’t manage it. Updates are suspended for now. I’m going to clear my head, finish the upcoming book next door, then come back and finish this one. I will finish it, so please understand. (I can’t promise I’ll finish Qingqing’s story this year. Please forget this book for now, and I hope we’ll be lucky enough to meet again next year.)
May my readers have smooth lives and be happy forever.
When Wen Qingqing was little, disaster struck her family, and she followed her master to live in seclusion deep in the mountains for nearly ten years.
When she was fifteen, her uncle, an official, finally found her and brought her to the capital.
Her uncle felt guilty and promised to find her an unparalleled match. He went tirelessly from one powerful family to another, but few were willing to accept her.
Rumors began to spread around the capital, mocking her for her foolish hopes. A girl from the mountains, an orphan with no family, should consider herself lucky if anyone wanted to marry her. Did she really think she could marry into a powerful family?
Wen Qingqing didn’t care. Everything in the capital was a fresh gift waiting to be explored, and she happily went about enjoying herself.
One day, Wen Qingqing was invited to a flower-viewing banquet.
At the banquet, someone made fun of her by bringing up the rumors about her that were circulating in the capital. Laughter rippled through the crowd.
“That’s quite amusing,” said a cool voice.
Everyone looked up.
In the dim candlelight, the Crown Prince held a cup in his red robes and smiled down at them. Looking at the woman at the center of the rumors, he asked in a mild voice, “Qingqing wants to get married. Why didn’t you ask your senior brother first?”
“...”
For a moment, no one dared to speak.
Only later did they learn that when the Crown Prince had lived in seclusion in the mountains as a boy, he had a junior sister. He had devoted himself to caring for her for many years.
[First Meeting]
It was my first day studying on the mountain.
My master pointed to the doorway and said, “That’s your senior brother. Call him Senior Brother.”
The boy happened to push the door open.
He had just finished bathing and wore a bright red outfit. Tilting his head, he lazily dried his hair with a rough cloth and glanced over at me without much interest.
Bright eyes and handsome features. He was so good-looking.
I ran up to him. “Senior! Brother!”
The boy looked surprised, then smiled and tousled my hair. “Good morning, junior sister.”
And so, the Crown Prince became my senior brother.
**
I went up the mountain to recuperate and met a muddleheaded girl who mistook me for her senior brother.
I’d meant to walk away.
But then she came skipping over, her eyes curved as she called me Senior Brother, as if she were the happiest person in the world.
So I had no choice but to say yes.
[Reading Guide]
1. Third-person narration.
2. Older-man, growing-up-together romance. The leads are exclusive to each other, body and soul.
3. The romance begins after the heroine reaches adulthood.
4. The story starts when the heroine is six. Her childhood and upbringing together take more than twenty chapters, so please keep that in mind before reading. (Bows)
Upcoming book: Starting Today, I’ll Cultivate the Unfeeling Dao. Blurb:
The first time Wen Xiw that she met Han Rusheng, she was eighteen and a princess of a small mortal kingdom.
When her country fell into crisis, she entered a cultivation sect to seek a way to save it. Her pleas were faint, however, and no one cared.
One day, she accidentally wandered into an old Taoist temple. On the altar stood a statue of a handsome young man.
The young man sat high on the altar, his red robes faded, his eyes lowered and closed. Cracks ran across the statue.
She knelt before it and prayed devoutly, begging the immortal to save her country.
The immortal answered her.
Only later did she learn that the temple enshrined Han Rusheng, head of the Qingyun Sect, the greatest sword sect under heaven.
*
The second time Wen Xiw met Han Rusheng, she happened to pass by the Qingyun Sect.
Han Rusheng called her over. He said the sect was pressuring him, he needed a cultivation partner, and asked if she would be willing.
Wen Xiw happily agreed.
He treated her well, gentle and considerate, taking care of everything.
She thought she was the happiest person in the world.
*
Sadly, she wasn’t.
By the Chunshui River,
Han Rusheng watched as a demon pierced her heart with a sword, all to protect his young disciple.
As she lay dying, she saw the gentle, composed look in his eyes.
That was the same expression he wore when he kissed her and whispered sweet nothings.
Alas.
There was nothing she could do. She died there.
Heaven and earth are without end, yin and yang turn in cycles, and the course of human life is ever-changing.
That’s fine.
She owed Han Rusheng a great deal. Repaying him with her life was only right.
After she died, she became a ghost.
A talisman master passed by and mistook her for an evil spirit, imprisoning her at a grave for a hundred years.
A hundred years later, she was finally free.
She entered the body of a puppet that had been thrown into a graveyard.
As soon as she entered the city, she learned that Han Rusheng’s young disciple was about to become the true mistress of the Qingyun Sect.
“What will Elder Wen do? She’s so pitiful.”
“Wen Xiw is so insignificant. She should be content to have been married to the Sword Sect’s leader for a hundred years.”
Wen Xiw didn’t feel content, nor did she think she was pitiful.
After a hundred years as a ghost, she had mastered the Unfeeling Dao and rarely thought of Han Rusheng anymore.
She sold her inner sect elder token from the Qingyun Sect, spent five copper coins on a wooden sword, and set off alone to roam the world.
