Yan Yang was born with every advantage: his mother was the renowned director Liu Wensu. He grew up on film sets from the age of three, and after years of honing his extraordinary talent, his acting became almost bewitching.
When he was eighteen, Liu Wensu tossed him a script for an edgy art film.
Yan Yang flipped through it casually and asked who had been cast as the female lead. Liu Wensu gave him a name: “Meng Tan.”
That year, Meng Tan was twenty-five. Just like her name, she was cool and aloof, like a white moonflower blooming at night. Not long before, she had won the second Best Actress award of her career at a film festival.
Yan Yang frowned slightly and tossed the script aside. “Forget it. I’m not interested.”
Liu Wensu folded her arms, her smile teasing. “Stage fright? Scared?”
Yan Yang couldn’t resist being provoked. “What would I be scared of?” He paused, his flirtatious eyes carrying the fearless defiance of youth. “That she’ll fall in love with me?”
-
On the night filming wrapped, Meng Tan had just come out of the restroom after touching up her makeup when someone pushed her right back inside.
The door quietly closed before her eyes, and a young man’s bold, burning kiss landed on her.
Meng Tan pushed Yan Yang away.
Her bright red lipstick had smudged beyond her lips. As she wiped it off while looking in the mirror, she teased him in a soft, unhurried voice. “Kid, haven’t you come out of character yet?”
Yan Yang stared fixedly at her, his expression fierce.
But his beautiful, flirtatious eyes were damp, as if a tender, lingering rainstorm were falling within them.
“Mianmian.”
He wrapped his arms around her from behind, holding her captive as he called her by her childhood nickname. “I like you.”
When she didn’t respond, he let his grievances spill out without restraint. “Meng Tan, I fucking love you!”
Meng Tan’s smile faded, and a trace of emotion seemed to stir in her eyes.
“Yan Yang, I have a boyfriend.”
Right before Yan Yang’s bloodshot eyes, she raised her slender hand. The sparkling diamond ring on her finger shone painfully bright. “We’re getting married soon.”
-
From the first moment Meng Tan met Yan Yang, she knew he was like a puppy with a bone in its mouth: once he had it, he wouldn’t let go. He was a handful.
