Xu Meina was the only daughter in her family. Being an only daughter didn't stop her parents from favoring boys over girls. They said they doted on her, but she was more like a pet: as long as she didn't make a fuss, she could do whatever she wanted, provided she didn't bring shame on her older and younger brothers.
Growing up in that environment turned Ms. Xu into a fighter. She got along well enough with her brothers, but she made sure she got everything they had. Whatever she did, she had to do it best. She couldn't tolerate discrimination or special treatment, and she was always ready for a fight, like an angry young person liable to explode at any moment.
When she competed on SMTM4, she was bristling with hostility. Whenever a man teased her, she hit back with a vicious diss, often cursing even harder and filthier than he had.
