At last, I heard a faint laugh from Bokuto on the other end of the phone, a little muffled. "I heard from Shirafuku that you haven't been doing interviews lately. Do you have a new dream?"
"I do, Bokuto-senpai." I sat down on the sofa and ran my hand over the texture of my pants. "I don't want to be a reporter anymore."
"That's okay," Bokuto said. "Your new dream will be amazing, too."
The young man's voice crossed mountains and seas, traveling through the tiny box in my hand and reaching my ears.
His voice seemed deeper than it had in high school, though perhaps that was because I was hearing it over the phone.
But its clarity and brightness were just as they'd always been.
His voice was so gentle now, like a lover's soft whisper.
He said, "Shi-chan, whatever dream you have, whatever kind of person you want to become or have already become... you'll always be someone I'm proud of."
He said, "Don't forget, we're a double ace. You'll always be the world's number-one gold-medal reporter in my heart."
There were no stars in Bologna's early morning sky. The bright moonlight illuminated the streets of the ancient city, spilling across them.
A young man with eyes as clear as moonlight lifted his head and gazed at the night sky.
He said, "Moon, light her way."
If I Had Three Days of Light.
A story about Bokuto and a reporter.
I originally wrote this as a birthday gift for myself. I decided to post it because apparently admiring it on my own wasn't enough.
