To Rei Furuya, Kawakami Jiang is the woman he loves. Though they haven't been together for long, the time they've spent by each other's side has already made her someone precious to him.
But his love for his country and his steadfast commitment to his ideals fill his heart. So, tormented by his decision, he erased every trace of himself and suddenly disappeared, leaving her no explanation.
Years later, when they meet again, the once-gentle girl who seemed so fragile has changed completely.
She wears a black dress, her long, dark hair falling to her waist. The face he remembers, with starlight in her eyes, is now as sharp and cold as shattered ice.
Everything is completely different.
Later...
With his bloodied wounds still untreated, Rei Furuya crawls on his knees through the raging blizzard and into Kawakami Jiang's castle, utterly miserable. He desperately tries to speak, but no sound comes out. With blood and tears blurring his vision, he looks at the half of Kawakami Jiang's face with the prosthetic eye and finally manages to say, “A-Jiang...”
Before he can finish, Kawakami Jiang frowns slightly and says, “Mr. Amuro, please don't call me that.”
Much, much later, he becomes her left eye.
And cures her illness.
