Lin Lan discovers that she is a cannon-fodder character in a dating game. Her three ex-boyfriends are all targets for the player to romance. As the foil to the female lead, she joins them on the dating show Heartbeat Life, where she clings desperately to her exes, flies into helpless rages at the heroine, then watches her win over all three men. So embarrassing is Lin Lan's behavior that her own brother sends her abroad, and she leaves in disgrace.
Male Contestant No. 1, Cao Zhuoyang: An up-and-coming F1 driver, and Lin Lan's first love from high school.
Male Contestant No. 2, Zhong Yan: An emerging artist, and Lin Lan's college boyfriend.
Male Contestant No. 3, Luo Cheng: A popular star, and Lin Lan's most recent ex.
Lin Lan: Fine, I'll choose Contestant No. 4 :)

Male Contestant No. 4, Chi Mingcheng, is a rookie idol who came up through a talent show. His family background was exposed during the competition, revealing that he's a handsome, talented guy from a poor family. He's won countless devoted mom fans.
In every version, he's an unromanceable character who keeps helping the heroine and ends the dating show alone, quietly shining on his own.
Lin Lan: I want to shine on my own, too! Let's shine on our own together!

To stay away from the heroine and her increasingly strange exes, Lin Lan clings tightly to Chi Mingcheng. She sends him her heartbeat messages, chooses only him for dates, and prepares an ultra-luxurious gift for him.
The production team: She loves him so much!
The audience: She loves him so much!
Chi Mingcheng: She loves me so much!
Lin Lan: ??? Didn't we agree in private? I told you I don't have those kinds of feelings for you.
Chi Mingcheng, eyes full of affection and voice gentle: I understand.
Lin Lan: You don't understand a damn thing!!!
