Xie Mengshu is an utterly ordinary high school senior.
At the start of the new semester, she sits in the classroom just as she always does. A stack of completed summer homework sits in the upper-left corner of her desk, and a thermos full of hot water rests in the upper-right.
Everything is just as usual, except for the strange look her deskmate gives her, as if she were a monster
Xie Mengshu pulls a packet of Skittles from her pocket, pours out a dozen or so, and offers them with a friendly smile. "Want some?"
Her deskmate swallows nervously. Black insect eggs roll faintly in the girl's palm, blood in the thermos gives off steam, and the tattered parchment in the upper-left corner of her desk bears a purple-black inverted pentagram.
The bell rings. Xie Mengshu calmly opens her textbook, then casually uses the doll charm on her schoolbag to hold down the corner of the page.
Her deskmate watches in horror as Xie Mengshu takes out a worn copy of the Diamond Sutra. The doll she's set on top of it looks exactly like the teacher at the front of the room.
Xie Mengshu bends to pick up her pen, bumps her head against the desk, and accidentally knocks the doll to the floor, shattering it into pieces.
Huh? Wasn't this thing made of plastic?
When she looks up again, the teacher has fainted from low blood sugar. Xie Mengshu pauses, then gets up to help.
From the classmates' perspective: The teacher is bleeding from every orifice, eyes wide open in death, while the timid, fragile, introverted classmate suddenly turns incredibly brave.
Screams erupt all around the classroom, with no corner left untouched
Instances: Classroom, gymnasium, theater, subway, hospital...
In a mad world, staying sane is a kind of madness in itself.
