“The Zhang City Zoo is a complete mess. It’s got monkeys and ostriches, peacocks and hyenas, and even a wolf with a bad leg...”
They all lived together.
Now a bird with a broken wing has arrived.
How do you think she’ll survive?

In 1991, Yu Ying woke up in a square, coffin-like courtyard. Chains and a heavy lock hung on the door.
Through a crack in the nailed-shut window, she saw a boy with a bad leg in the courtyard, silently sawing wood day after day.
“Help me.” A plea for help escaped her throat.
The boy in the courtyard ignored her.
But later, he took a heavy blow for her.
They played hide-and-seek countless times in that courtyard. He would say, “Yu Ying, hide well. Don’t let them find you.”
They never found her again.
Until 1994, when they met again at the Zhang City Welfare School.
