Little Butterfly

When the lights came on, I saw him sitting there, immaculate, his head slightly bowed as he tucked the stray hair falling across his eyes behind his ear.

I saw the curve of his smile and his white teeth.

I also saw his shoes, painted to look distressed.

A white T-shirt, jeans, canvas shoes. His cuffs covered his ankles, but the backs of his heels peeked out.

I saw paper scraps and flower petals falling together from the sky.

In the noisy surroundings, he was as quiet as a college student.

I wanted so badly to get close to him.

I missed him so much.

I realized I still loved him. I wanted to touch his hair,

fall beside him, like a scrap of paper, like a butterfly.
