Mu Yun is forced to bind herself to a System and transmigrates into a book as a cannon-fodder character doomed to bring about her own downfall.
When she first wakes up, she sees the book's villain, battered and disheveled, tied to a chair and glaring at her with bloodshot eyes. Mu Yun's heart lurches. Has she just arrived, only to get killed off already?
Thinking fast, Mu Yun drops to her knees with a thump. She feels the villain's breath catch, then grabs his leg and sobs as if her heart is breaking, desperately trying to cover her tracks as she pours out her love for him.
After that, Mu Yun proves her devotion by staying by the villain's side and looking after him with tender care, personally handling everything for him. Even when he mocks her, she takes it without complaint. Then she picks up the dirty clothes he's taken off and, in the bitter cold of winter, sits in the courtyard to wash them by hand, enduring the prickling stare at her back. Her hands turn bright red with cold, but she's secretly thrilled, thinking she'll show him her wounds even more later, use her suffering to make him feel guilty, and get him to worry about her.
Ji Qin inexplicably transmigrates into a book, and the System tells him he's the villainous boss in the story and must follow his character setting to the end.
Just as Ji Qin is about to complete the first instance and enter the main storyline, the cannon-fodder character who's supposed to be written out of the story suddenly looks terrified, then clings to his leg, bawling and refusing to let go.
Ji Qin: "..."
How did the plot go off the rails?
After that, this cannon-fodder sticks to him like glue. Every day, Ji Qin wonders, Why won't she leave already? She's getting in the way of the plot.
And another thing: There's hot water in the boiler, but she insists on washing clothes with cold water in the courtyard on freezing days. She's grinning with delight even while chattering her teeth from the cold, and afterward she refuses to put medicine on her wounds, insisting on waving her bright red hands right in front of him.
What bizarre behavior. It makes no sense.
Ji Qin gazes at his increasingly soft stomach and sighs in dismay. He used to be the campus heartthrob and captain of the basketball team, with a six-pack and a crowd of admirers. Now he has to play a sickly invalid, spending his days in bed and getting hardly any exercise.
Forget abs, lately Mu Yun has been feeding him so much that he's even starting to put on weight.
"No! I've got to get back in shape!"
Ji Qin makes up his mind. While Mu Yun is out, he pulls his homemade dumbbells from under the bed and starts working out. Then he hears something hit the floor behind him. He turns around stiffly and sees Mu Yun, who's come back, standing in the doorway with her mouth hanging open in shock.
Ji Qin: "...It's not what it looks like."
