Bright Days of Prosperity

Open with caution. This practice attempt failed!

Starting August 1, this will be moved into the short-story collection, beginning with Chapter Six.

Chen Fan arrived in the classroom early and quietly cleared the love letters out of Yun Xuan's desk. Looking at them in his hands, he resisted the urge to open them and see who they were from. He silently reminded himself that he couldn't distract her now. He had to wait until after the college entrance exams.

On the evening after the exams ended, the clouds glowing at the horizon reflected on Yun Xuan's face. She asked Chen Fan, "Is there something you want to tell me? You've been following me for so long."

Chen Fan stood there for ages without saying a word, and Yun Xuan fell silent too. The two of them stood in the street as passersby came and went around them.

"I like you, Yun Xuan. Will you be with me?" Chen Fan's face turned red as he finally managed to get the words out.

Yun Xuan was at a loss. He wasn't usually this slow-witted. What was going on? Well, she liked him too, so what did it matter?

She smiled at Chen Fan. "I will."

Years later, at their wedding, Yun Xuan faced Chen Fan and said "I will!" once again. They both felt dazed for a moment, remembering that evening so many years ago and the brave young boy and girl they had been.

Mischievous heroine X puppy-like hero

Yun Xuan and Chen Fan first met on the first day of their freshman year in high school. Yun Xuan thought he was terrifying. How could anyone chat with everyone?

Chen Fan's first impression of Yun Xuan, however, was that she barely said a word!

That impression didn't last long before it was shattered!!!

One evening, Chen Fan went out to buy dinner and happened to see a girl who looked a little like Yun Xuan. But as she chatted away, he couldn't believe his eyes.

He heard her say, "I don't need skincare. That's right, I'm over forty this year, but I still look like a young girl. Why would I need any?"

She laughed and walked off.

Chen Fan kept an eye on Yun Xuan for two whole days after that, trying to figure out who could be so different at school and outside it.

Much, much later, the two of them were strolling around their university when Chen Fan brought it up again. It had been a tremendous shock to his younger, more naive self!
