Top's POV: Shen An had a crush on someone for over ten years, but never planned to get close to him.
The person he liked was a man, a man with excellent grades.
He didn't want to drag him down a difficult path. He wanted to see him get married, have children, and live a happy life.
But that person died. The man Shen An hadn't even dared to touch was killed by his gambling-addicted father's abuse.
Shen An regretted it for ten years. Then one day, he woke up back in his high school classroom and saw that person again.
This time, he didn't want to let go, no matter what.
Bottom's POV: Song Qing had a gambling-addicted father. His one wish was to study hard and get out of that home. He saved money desperately, even scavenging through trash, and studied as hard as he could. He just wanted to get into college, like his teacher said, and leave this place for good. After being beaten again and again, he told himself to endure a little longer, just a little longer. Then one day, he met someone, and realized that he, too, hoped someone would save him...
As Song Qing's roommate, he couldn't believe it when he first found out that the top student Song Qing liked men and had a boyfriend. He felt sorry for him, too.
Then he ate the awful cafeteria food and saw Song Qing enjoying different delicious meals every day, along with all kinds of fruit, snacks, and gifts. He saw a tall, handsome man smiling as he softly coaxed Song Qing. The roommate swallowed his sour envy and declared, if that was the kind of boyfriend on offer, he was willing to "marry" him too!
