The Fake Playboy

The year Gongsun Yao first married Li Huaixu, he was a notorious wastrel prince in the capital. At the time, the emperor’s many sons were fighting tooth and nail for the throne, openly and behind the scenes. He alone was universally dismissed as a useless fool, a feckless wastrel and the least likely candidate to inherit the throne. Gongsun Yao thought so too. After marrying him, she spent every day on edge, treading as carefully as if on thin ice, afraid that one careless mistake would turn her into a casualty in the battle for the throne. Her fool of a husband, meanwhile, did whatever he pleased as if it were only natural, and often even tried to drag her into his wild antics. Gongsun Yao was at a loss for words. Then, one day, they happened to spend the night together at the temple outside the capital where they often went. That night, rain poured down in torrents, and it was so dark she couldn’t see her hand in front of her face. Gongsun Yao was hiding in the temple’s meditation room when, in a flash of lightning and thunder, she watched her wastrel husband swiftly and cleanly behead an assassin… Gongsun Yao: !!! #Help, why is there something off about my useless husband? #Can someone tell her what she just saw?
