After Yun Ci falls into the water while retrieving a kite for her younger brother, something goes wrong with her eyes. She can see a changing number above everyone's head.
At first, she thinks she has an eye disease. But the doctor examines her, she takes medicine, and the numbers she sees are still there.
Later, she discovers that the numbers above people's heads show how much they like her.
Her parents have seventy and ninety above their heads. Her second mother rolls her eyes whenever she sees Yun Ci, and the number above her head has stayed at zero for as long as anyone can remember.
Her siblings each like her to different degrees, too.
A young gentleman she met three months ago hears that she fell into the water and comes to visit. He seems considerate and attentive, but the number above his head is only ten.
Luo Shujin, whom she has known since childhood and who is away from home, hears about her accident and rushes back from out of town. He rides into the city at a gallop, dismounts in front of the Yun residence, and hurries inside.
"Yun Ci!" Luo Shujin shouts as he runs. "Are you there?!"
Yun Ci strolls out at a leisurely pace. "Thanks, I'm still alive."
She looks up and sees a gleaming one hundred above Luo Shujin's head.
Yun Ci freezes, then squints.
So bright.

Everyone in Chuxi City knows that Luo Shujin, the city lord's son, is a bona fide menace. He rides horses, fights crickets, gambles and gets into fights. He's a genuine spoiled playboy, and even his father can't control him. Whoever crosses him is in for trouble.
Then one day, someone sees Yun Ci, the second young lady of the Yun family, drag him out of a gambling den by the ear.
Luo Shujin isn't angry. Instead, he grins.
"Yun Ci, don't be mad. Let's go eat something. There's a new restaurant in the west of the city, and I've heard the food is great."
Yun Ci marches along, still tugging his ear. "All you ever think about is eating! Have you memorized today's lessons? Finished your homework?"
Luo Shujin grabs her hand and wheedles, "But Yun Ci, I'm so hungry... Can we eat first? I promise I'll go back and do my homework afterward, okay?"
The onlookers are stunned. Is this really the Luo Shujin they know?! Who is this weirdo acting spoiled with the Yun family's young lady?

Jiang Sui and Fu Linxiao's marriage was arranged by their elders.
Their betrothal was arranged when they were babies. Neither of them had a choice.
They seem like childhood sweethearts who get along well, but in truth, neither can stand the other.
Jiang Sui thinks Fu Linxiao is cold and never smiles. He isn't like the young master of the Yuan family, who is refined and courteous.
Fu Linxiao thinks Jiang Sui is always lazy and never acts properly. She's not like the young lady of the Li family, who is gentle and virtuous.
When people are around, they speak to each other politely.
When they're alone, he speaks coldly and she answers icily, each taking a jab at the other.
Until one day, bandits appear outside the capital and abduct Jiang Sui while she is on her way to a temple with a friend to pray for blessings.
Fu Linxiao, who has always taken things calmly, suddenly seems to go mad. He grabs his sword, leaps onto his horse, and gives chase, killing several bandits before rescuing Jiang Sui.
He is wounded, too.
Jiang Sui's eyes redden as she cleans his wounds and cries.
Fu Linxiao says, "Don't cry. I'm no good at comforting you."
Jiang Sui grunts. "Who asked you to comfort me? I'll comfort myself!"
Fu Linxiao pauses, then bursts out laughing.
Jiang Sui frowns and glares at him. "...What the hell are you laughing at?"
Fu Linxiao raises an eyebrow. "Are you the hell?"
Jiang Sui: "...Fu Linxiao!!"
Later, during the Qixi Festival, lovers in the capital carve matching locks for their beloveds, asking the Matchmaker for a destined union.
Jiang Sui grips her carving knife, both hands trembling. "Fu Linxiao, your name has way too many strokes! My hand's about to fall off!"
At home, Fu Linxiao suddenly sneezes. "Achoo!"
Huh? Who's cursing me?
