After transmigrating to ancient times, Ye Chichi becomes the least favored concubine-born daughter in a grand household. Her family has even arranged a marriage for her to Baili Guantang, the famous "God of Killing" and "Doomed Lone Star" of the Great Jing dynasty.
They say he's so deranged that he caused his entire family to die. He's the only one left, away fighting in a war, and his mansion in the capital has stood empty for years, haunted and gloomy.
Just as the two are about to marry, Baili Guantang finally brings about his own death!
The Ye family's young ladies and concubines all lament the situation and wish they could send Ye Chichi away. The old steward from the Baili household comes to call off the engagement, saying they can't ruin a good girl's life.
But Ye Chichi sees it differently. Isn't it wonderful to marry into a rich household, with no mother-in-law to torment her and no husband to wait on, and spend every day lounging around and counting money?
So when Ye Chichi is asked, she dabs the corner of her eye with a handkerchief and chokes out, "I'm already carrying the general's child. In life, I'll be his widow; in death, I'll be his ghost."
Everyone: "Say that again? The God of Killing hasn't been home in three years. How could you have his child? Are you carrying Nezha or something???"
The old steward: "I never imagined there was a young woman in this world so devoted and true." He immediately takes it upon himself to arrange for the marquis to marry Ye Chichi and make sure she's well fed and cared for.
As Baili Guantang's only relative, Ye Chichi inherits his mansion and all his wealth. The old steward takes care of everything inside and outside the estate, while she spends every day eating, drinking, and having fun. It's practically paradise.
But just as Ye Chichi is figuring out how to "plausibly" fall and miscarry, her husband, who was supposed to have died in battle, comes home.
Ye Chichi clutches a priceless vase and stares at Baili Guantang, who stands a head taller than her, radiating menace. Stammering, she says, "We're, we're married, so that's marital property. We can get divorced, but we have to split the family fortune, half each!"
Baili Guantang takes the vase from her with one hand and sets it aside. To the little wife who has appeared out of nowhere, he says, "I hear you're carrying my child. How did you get pregnant? Let me see."
Ye Chichi: Damn, I took it too far.
Later, everyone says General Baili must be potent. He came home and got Ye Chichi pregnant within just a few months...
PS: The leads have a ten-year age gap, and they only get together after the female lead is an adult.
