I Hold My Wife Close to My Heart, but She Kicks Me into a Ditch

Chasing-the-wife-to-the-crematorium trope / seductive, sly gong

The struggling yuri novelist Yu Qiuchi transmigrates into one of her own unfinished novels.

Unlike other transmigrations into books, Yu Qiuchi arrives at the story's end. The two heroines are happily together, enjoying all the blessings in the world. But the beautiful villain has become blind and mute, trapped in a prison.

Yu Qiuchi transmigrates as the indifferent, powerful cannon-fodder empress. After issuing an imperial decree, she brings out the villain, Shen Jingzhu, now a disheveled, ashen shadow of herself.

Yu Qiuchi has always favored Shen Jingzhu. After all, she is the brilliant, beautiful girl Yu Qiuchi created, a girl who refused to accept her fate.

Yu Qiuchi brings her home. Whenever they communicate, Shen Jingzhu can only write words in her palm.

The words she writes most often are "Thank you" and "Don't go."

Shen Jingzhu's life has been lonely and miserable. Perhaps she couldn't accept her fate, so she fought the heroine, did terrible things, and ended up like this.

One day, Yu Qiuchi returns from court later than usual. She finds Shen Jingzhu sitting on the steps, hugging her knees. Only when she hears the palace attendants announce the empress's arrival does she finally burst into tears. Her lips tremble as she says, "Don't go... Don't leave me..."

Shen Jingzhu can speak again.

From then on, Yu Qiuchi keeps Shen Jingzhu in the palace, protecting her, doting on her, and even... loving her.

Until the day Shen Jingzhu casts off her sickly appearance and takes control of the realm, standing at Yu Qiuchi's bedside. Only then does Yu Qiuchi realize that the girl is still the same girl she always was, a monster with ambition and no emotions.

The empress dies, and Shen Jingzhu, who has spent years being kept in the palace, takes the throne.

Is that the end of everything? No. Yu Qiuchi is the author, after all, and there's a genre called a novel where the protagonist transmigrates into a book and is reborn.
