Yun Wu died. He killed himself on New Year's Day.
He had eternal life and endless wealth, but he was terribly lonely. His family had long since died one after another in agony, and human lives were always so brief. He could only watch helplessly as his friends passed away, one by one, with nothing he could do. All he could do was bury his pain deep inside.
On that New Year, he sat on the living-room sofa, his eyes once again falling on the firmly shut front door. No one knocked. Only then did he realize he had no friends left.
Because of what he was, the people of the present day could never know he existed. He couldn't even attend his friends' funerals; all he could do was watch from afar.
He felt he was sick. Day and night, he stared out the window, lost in thought. Pain and grief consumed him, crushing the breath from his lungs. He lived like an exquisite marionette.
He was in so much pain that he killed himself, reaching into his own chest to pull out his beating heart and crushing it in his hand, believing he would finally be free.
He never imagined he wouldn't die. It broke him. He tried to kill himself again and again, but it was futile. He began drifting through life in a daze, until he met him.
