Zhen Xi (bottom) has had a secret crush on Sheng Yan (top), a handsome straight man, for ten years. He has always pretended to be Sheng Yan's friend, and whenever one of them gets dumped, they cry to each other. After the beauty gets dumped yet again, Zhen Xi decides to keep him company one last time and then give up for good.
But an accident during their trip sends them both transmigrating into a danmei novel set in the entertainment industry. They are about to spend four months filming as a couple, with 22 kissing scenes and all kinds of intimate scenes, then work together on variety shows to promote their CP.
The System gives them a mission: if they become the nation's top CP within three years, they can choose to sever their bond and return to the real world, where they can go on living.
For the sake of survival, they work together.
Zhen Xi gets so deeply into character that he can barely pull himself out of it. Once filming ends, he forces himself to snap out of it quickly. And he succeeds.
As it turns out, the one who can't snap out of it is Sheng Yan. The beauty quietly falls for him, curling up like a mosquito coil without realizing it, and heads down an increasingly unhinged path...

Zhen Xi: We're just promoting our CP. I'm allowed to find a boyfriend. I'm going to a bar tonight.
The beauty, burning with jealousy: You're not going. I'm better than all of them.
The hapless extras who are interested in Zhen Xi tremble, afraid the beauty will secretly kill them.

The pair's CP becomes a nationwide sensation, landing on the trending searches every day.
The beauty kisses Zhen Xi by force during a livestream, crashing Weibo. As Zhen Xi looks on in confusion, he calls it: sharing the sweetness.

Zhen Xi: We've completed the mission. Let's sever our bond.
The beauty: Sever our bond? Not in this lifetime. We could go get our marriage certificates instead.
Zhen Xi: What about your unattainable first love? Your ideal type?
The beauty, in tears: It's my fault for being so slow. It's always been you.
