The gods fall, and souls are born anew. Her heart belongs to Wei Yan, yet her fate is to serve all living beings.
At the end: “I thought I could control everything and stop everything, but who knew I was caught up in this game too. I’m sorry, Wei Yan. I have no choice left. In the end, I have failed you. Goodbye.”
“A Yue, you said we would be together in every life, forever. I forbid it! I forbid it! A Yue!”
At the beginning: Zhong Gu Lanyue, a kindhearted, mischievous princess who has lost her memories, and Wei Yan, a narcissistic lord who is cold on the outside but warm within, are married at the behest of their forebears. They cannot stand each other, yet cannot help caring for one another. Once they realize their feelings, they dream of traveling across the land and settling down in a quiet corner of the world. But they never expect a vast conspiracy to unfold, step by step.
In a dream, Lanyue learns of her mission and that there is no turning back. Unwilling to leave Wei Yan behind, she insists on defying fate and stopping everything. But the course of life has long been quietly set in motion, and all is already destined. “Wei Yan, Sang Li, I’m counting on you. Xue Ba must die.”
Wei Yan stakes his life to help her, but even the power of the sacred fruit is not enough. Amid the ruins, he cries, “We were so close, just one step away! Aaaaaah!”
It really was just one step. But Lanyue could no longer bear to see the man she loved, her family, or her friends die for her.
At the very end: “The gods have fallen for all living beings. Will I still be able to find you?”
Theme: Love means standing as equals and being honest with each other; family is the little moments of warmth and light; friendship means drawing your blade to help a friend.
