An Old House from Ancient Times Connects to the Modern World

Xia Yinghe was a child bride. Her husband had a broken leg and their child was still young, but her cruel parents-in-law drove them out with a sack of coarse rice.

With no house or land, she had no choice but to take her family to stay in a dilapidated old house in the village, its roof leaking and wind blowing through, with help from the village head.

On the first day after moving in, she was so hungry that her head spun. She pushed open the creaking kitchen door and discovered a wondrous place.

Brightly lit, full of strange shapes and bustling with people.

Every day, all kinds of novel things she had never seen before appeared beside a big green bin: steamed buns gone hard and dry, opened flatbreads, chipped bowls and plates...

From then on, Xia Yinghe quietly traveled back and forth between two worlds.

She would bring unusual things back from this wondrous world, then take advantage of wealthy families' desire for novelty to trade them for what she needed.

With this way of life, Xia Yinghe's fortunes steadily improved. Her husband, who had been told he would never stand again, not only got back on his feet but also achieved a great undertaking he had never dared dream of. The little child, once so thin and frail, grew healthier and sturdier by the day.

And thanks to this golden finger, Xia Yinghe unknowingly found herself on a smooth road filled with benefactors.

In the summer of the fifteenth year of Yuanhe, drought struck and not a drop of rain fell. The villagers were in a panic, endlessly praying to the gods and Buddha.

Only Xia Yinghe's family remained untroubled, with grain in their bowls.

The fine rice and flour she bought in the modern world kept them well fed even through the famine, and their lives only got better.

Drawing on her miraculous experience, Xia Yinghe bought grain and quality seeds, helping the villagers survive years of hardship and famine and escape the fate of fleeing their homes. Before she knew it, she had become the village's undisputed authority, envied by everyone.
