Bai Li is a lazy homebody who loves to lie flat. His lifelong dream is to happily stay at home and do nothing.
After turning down his siblings' job suggestions for the tenth time, including "caretaker of an abandoned mansion," "guard at a haunted school," and "midnight bus driver," Bai Li finally can't take it anymore. He leaves home to make his own way in the world and become a happy wage slave.
But before he can get started, disaster strikes. While downstairs at a breakfast shop, chomping on fried dough sticks and drinking soy milk, the customer next to him suddenly starts twitching their eyes and winking at him frantically.
Bai Li: "…" Is their eyelid spasming?
At the same time, Bai Li hears a strange voice from next door.
"Charm check: 90/60. Failed. What a shame. You struck a pose and flirted with the handsome guy next to you, but not only did you fail to seduce him, he thinks your eyelid is twitching and that you should see a doctor."
Bai Li: "…"
What the heck is Charm?
After getting hit with a Charm attempt over breakfast, Bai Li makes a bold decision. He'll pretend the other person successfully charmed him, kindly help the poor sap achieve their goal, then gleefully stab them in the back at the last second before they reach their happy ending, savoring their beautiful, disbelieving expression.
After successfully cutting in and taking someone else's invitation, Bai Li happily enters a "relaxing and fun" live-action Cthulhu tabletop role-playing game. The work is easy and entertaining, and it even pays. It's practically perfect!
As an honest person, Bai Li is nothing like those troublemaking veterans who are always trying to Charm NPCs, craft weapons with their bare hands, or drive mechs into villages. He diligently searches for clues and conscientiously follows the plot. Except for occasionally indulging his own little interests, he swears to give the KP the best possible gaming experience. He's practically the perfect investigator.
After playing in more and more campaigns, he gradually gets to know an all-purpose scapegoat of an eldritch god. This deity wanders through all kinds of scenarios, has countless secret identities, and constantly switches between being a teammate and a boss. The god takes great delight in messing with people, and has countless victims.
Bai Li assumes none of this has anything to do with him, an honest, hardworking investigator. But one day, he encounters a new secret identity of the eldritch god in a scenario, and it turns out to be his own older sister, who claims to work 996 and constantly complains about overtime!
Bai Li discovers to his horror that his dark-skinned older brother is the god, his beautiful older sister is the god, and even Wang, the neighbor next door, is the god.
Bai Li, realizing he's surrounded by eldritch gods: "…"
His simple, happy tabletop gaming life instantly turns into a living nightmare.
Bai Li trembles in fear, realizing that eldritch gods surround him, until one day he's picked up by an organization called the "Eldritch God Victims' Alliance." The group aims to unite all the poor investigators oppressed by that deity, raise the banner of rebellion, and fight against the miserable fate of being a toy and test subject for this capricious god. They'll do everything they can to improve the gaming experience for these unlucky investigators.
Ever since joining the organization, Bai Li feels much more energetic.
Until one day, after thriving in the Alliance and rising to become its leader, Bai Li suddenly realizes that he himself might also be one of the eldritch god's incarnations.
Bai Li: "...Oh wow, this is exciting."
Warnings:
1. The protagonist is also an incarnation of the eldritch god and leads the Victims' Alliance. That makes perfect sense.
2. The protagonist is a chaotic evil troublemaker, a little shit, and utterly inhuman in his logic. He's an actual villain with no human morality. In short, I'm aiming for a protagonist with a strong nonhuman feel.
3. This is a COC tabletop role-playing story with an infinite-flow style. Although it's cosmic horror, it doesn't draw heavily on the original texts. The scenarios should all be original. You don't need tabletop gaming experience to enjoy it.
4. The protagonist starts as an NPC and occasionally takes on NPC duties even after becoming an investigator. No CP, no romance, and no genuine romantic feelings accepted. The Charm attempts aren't sincere, just playing along. Please avoid this if it bothers you.
