The young emperor died, and Baoshu became a consort dowager. The new emperor on the throne was her maternal cousin.
Before the evening meal, the new emperor summoned Baoshu to the Hall of Supreme Harmony as usual.
Baoshu nervously ate a variety of dishes: chicken with scallion vinegar, the Eight Immortals platter, spring bamboo shoots, camel's hoof soup, golden milk pastries, and more.
Once she was full, the emperor carried her to the imperial desk and patted her soft, rounded belly. "Be good, Abao. Grind ink for me."
It was late at night. Baoshu kept yawning as she ground the ink, cautiously glancing at the emperor as he calmly read through memorials. "Your Majesty, people may criticize you for being alone in a room with a consort dowager."
The emperor picked up a pastry from the desk. "You used to love these jujube-paste pastries."
Baoshu: "..."
The food in the Hall of Supreme Harmony was so good that, before long, Baoshu realized she couldn't bear to be apart from her imperial cousin.
Until one day, her imperial-cousin emperor carried her onto the dragon bed and looked at her with a burning intensity she'd never seen before.
Baoshu lay on the bed, sobbing. Sooner or later, you had to pay for eating your fill. Her handsome, gentle imperial-cousin emperor was like a different person in bed, as if he wanted to devour her whole!
