Hermes had forgotten what he had done, something that could never be undone.
His friend would never come back. Morpheus would never see tomorrow, the tomorrow he had created with his own life.
That person's embrace was dry and warm, full of strength. Like dawn and dusk, like the sun mingled with morning dew and evening mist.
"I'm clumsy, and I can't help much. It's all right if everyone stops dreaming, but people still need to sleep," he said with a smile.
"Don't be sad," Morpheus said. "My friend, don't be sad."
"Dreams are a homeland for those burdened with sorrow. I just want my good friend to have somewhere he can sleep peacefully, without a care in the world."
Please note before reading:
1. This is a story about an original male character and Hermes, with a friendship focus.
2. The tone is very gentle, but given the subject matter, the ending can't be very happy.
3. I'm not fond of Hermes, so the original intention of this story wasn't to heal him. I made up a character who doesn't exist to keep him company. This character is also lonely and empathetic, but his empathy is completely different from Hermes's: it's empathy for someone like himself, born of friendship. I wonder if, in this story, he feels even a moment's regret as he returns to the sea of stars. My answer is that Hermes would never regret it, no matter what.
Theme: Love this world.
Woo hoo hoo, I cried so loudly
