Jiang Ran is an outstanding employee at the transmigration-into-a-book agency. Coolheaded, rational, and highly efficient, he’s known as an emotionless mission machine.
Just after finishing a major assignment, he receives an urgent plea for help from the System: he must save a cannon-fodder character in a melodramatic novel and stop him from developing self-awareness.
The target is named Si Chuqiu, an arrogant, self-centered CEO with a hopeless fixation on romance. He keeps courting disaster and eventually meets a tragic end.
Jiang Ran sticks to his usual style and pushes the mission forward with the most direct, heavy-handed approach.
The protagonist refuses to take Si Chuqiu’s “dirty money.” Jiang Ran says, “If he doesn’t want it, don’t keep pushing money on him. If he doesn’t need it, you might as well give it to me.”
Si Chuqiu: “All right.”
The protagonist misunderstands Si Chuqiu. Jiang Ran says, “I’m President Si’s secretary. You should talk to me first about work matters.”
Si Chuqiu: “That’s true.”
The protagonist rejects Si Chuqiu. Jiang Ran says, “He’s the one with bad taste. You’re rich and handsome. Do you really have to keep pining after this one person?”
Si Chuqiu: “You’re right!”
With the mission progress looking promising, Jiang Ran is just about to clock out when Si Chuqiu suddenly blocks his way.
Si Chuqiu: “Secretary Jiang, something’s off about you! You must...”
Jiang Ran wonders if he’s been too obvious and Si Chuqiu has figured him out.
Several plans flash through his mind as he tries to decide how to bluff his way out of this
Si Chuqiu: “You must have a crush on me!”
Jiang Ran: “...”
Si Chuqiu: “Heh, I can’t help being so charming.”
Jiang Ran: “...”
