The Three Lives: Written by Ma Xianglan, Edited by Qing Yang and Xiao Ming

San Sheng Zhuan, also known as San Sheng Ji, is listed in Qu Pin, Chuanqi Huikao Biaomu, Qu Lu, and other works. Volume 18 of Hu Wenhuan's Qunying Leixuan preserves two lost songs from this play, "Xuexi Gewu" and "Yuzan Zengbie," under the title San Sheng Zhuan Yuzan Ji. A note beneath the title reads: "This was compiled by Ma Xianglan, based on the story of Wang Kui, and is different from Pan Bizheng's Yuzan." Volume 4 of Yue Lu Yin, compiled by Ling Xuzi and others, also preserves a set of lost songs titled San Sheng Ji. Volume 6 of Shen Zijing's revised Nanci Xinpu contains a song in the Dashi tune, "Shaonian You," with the note beneath the tune title: "San Sheng Zhuan, written by Lady Ma Xianglan."

On the surface, San Sheng Zhuan tells the familiar story of Wang Kui betraying Guiying. In truth, it is a counterattack against Zheng Zhiwen's Bai Lian Qun.

This series was started so that plays written by women could be shared online.

I proofread these works myself, so please point out any mistakes in the comments.

I also hope to provide source material for students, readers, and writers.
