Before she turned twenty-seven, Qi Yunjian had always lived as she pleased. But after returning home one day, she swiftly made the most conventional, rule-following decision imaginable: take her billions in assets and marry Xie Yutu, a tech tycoon from a prominent family.

Except that there was a minus sign in front of those billions.

What she needed was a chance to turn two negatives into a positive:

Negative assets x being within kissing distance of Xie Yutu = a legitimate reason to keep the baby and ditch the father + run off with the money

She thought theirs would be a marriage where they discussed business, not feelings, and satisfied their physical needs without getting emotionally involved. Each had their own agenda, and each got what they wanted. But the strange, aloof Xie Yutu was impossible to impress outside the home, and just as impossible inside it.

You can't cook without ingredients. If he's completely unmoved, how is Qi Yunjian supposed to get anything cooking?

So every night, she adds some spicy "extra ingredients" for the two of them. She puts her whole self into it, yet increasingly suspects that Xie Yutu just isn't up to the task.

Just as she is losing hope, one night Xie Yutu knocks on her bedroom door and says, expressionless, "Let's sleep together."

Then he adds solemnly, "I'm worried you'll be cold."

Qi Yunjian pulls up the covers, revealing only her round eyes. "Let's get one thing straight. Don't fall in love with me."

Xie Yutu has been rather troubled lately. He married a wife he had no feelings for to fulfill an obligation and follow the usual script, but she is now unwaveringly in love with him.

Or, more accurately, she keeps pestering him relentlessly, and he can hardly take it anymore.

With his decidedly unconventional way of thinking, he comes up with the perfect solution: stick to her every day and shower her with endless affection. Sooner or later, the once formidable CEO Qi will get fed up and keep her distance from him.

At first, he forces himself to indulge and spoil her.

Later, he realizes he doesn't dislike this kind of intimacy.

In fact, he enjoys it.

One day, Xie Yutu's assistant notices that a small bed has appeared beside the large bed in his bedroom.

Unable to suppress his curiosity, the assistant thinks it over carefully before asking, "Mr. Xie, is there happy news on the way? Are you expecting a child?"

Xie Yutu replies coolly, "The child isn't important. As for a daughter, there's already one at home."

Noticing the assistant looking at the two beds, Xie Yutu pauses, then waves him out. "Everyone should focus on their own duties. Get to work."

The assistant leaves, completely baffled. He doesn't know that "Everyone should focus on their own duties. Get to work" wasn't an order for him, but a description of the roles and purpose of the two beds.

The two beds represent not the result of expecting a child, but the process: baby-making play.
