Everyone says that Shen Chu, the poor and handsome top student, is only dating Xia Wei, the spoiled little princess who never studies, because she throws money at him.
And they're not exactly wrong.
Xia Wei fell for Shen Chu at first sight. When he was too busy tutoring to earn tuition money to pay her any attention, she offered to have him tutor her instead, and pay him for it.
From then on, Shen Chu became her personal errand boy and follower. His usually cool, straight-backed figure would bend and bow whenever he was around her.
At the school gala, as everyone cheered them on, Xia Wei closed her eyes and rose onto her toes to lean toward Shen Chu. But then she saw his childhood friend standing nearby, her eyes quietly turning red.
Even Shen Chu's younger brother, whose medical treatment Xia Wei had generously paid for, was standing beside the girl, glaring at Xia Wei with resentment.
Back when she was throwing money at Shen Chu to win him over, Xia Wei had never thought that the heroine of his world was supposed to be a remarkable girl who was as poor but resilient as he was.
Looking at them, Xia Wei felt like a wicked villain for the first time.
-
Fine. A villain should act like one. The hero and heroine's world was never meant to include her.
Accepting reality, Xia Wei decisively deleted Shen Chu's contact information and set him free. Then she went to find Ying Xinghuai, the young master who was just like her: a careless delinquent who skipped class, climbed walls, and never acted respectable.
Shen Chu's younger brother didn't believe it. Every week on visiting day, Xia Wei would find a way to come with Shen Chu. This time, as soon as Shen Chu and his childhood friend arrived, his brother immediately shut the hospital room door, determined to keep Xia Wei from coming in and ruining things.
After waiting a long while, Shen Chu kept glancing toward the door. But instead of Xia Wei, a doctor came to tell them that the fee for their VIP room had not been renewed.
It turned out they weren't special. Xia Wei had paid for every VIP room on the floor. She'd renewed the fees for all the other patients, but not theirs.
And Xia Wei never showed up again.
"She's using this to force you to give in!" Shen Chu's younger brother fumed. "The competition is coming up. She wants to compete and train with you, so she'll definitely come looking for you!"
But when Shen Chu finally went looking for her, Xia Wei was hiding in the equipment room, secretly eating a hot pot feast that Ying Xinghuai had somehow managed to smuggle into school.
At the sound of the door being shoved open, Ying Xinghuai glanced up with a careless look. "Who is this guy? Doesn't he know how to knock?"
Xia Wei didn't even raise her eyes. "Here to check on discipline? Fine, I know eating hot pot breaks school rules. Go ahead and deduct my points."
Shen Chu gripped the papers in his hand, his gaze icy. His younger brother, following behind him, was even more furious. "You're not going to study with my brother anymore? You're going to throw your life away with this school bully?"
Ying Xinghuai shot a glance at the paper in Shen Chu's hand. The first page seemed to show Xia Wei the competition's shortlist, with a ranking in the hundreds. He suddenly laughed. "Funny, I think I came first in this year's competition. And who are you?"
Both leads are each other's one and only.
The romance takes place after they become adults. The heroine never dated Shen Chu; people around them just assumed they were together because they kept teasing them about it.
