The 1970s: My Wife in My Arms

Shi Jin'an and her boss transmigrate together into a story set in a bygone era, becoming minor female characters whose fates are impossible to control. Her two sisters-in-law can't stand her, complaining that there's one more mouth to feed, so they marry her off at eighteen. But the man she's married to is a widower in his thirties with two sons. He can barely provide enough food and clothing, and she spends every day hungry. Add hard labor to the mix, and she eventually works herself to death.

Determined to change her fate and never let anyone else control her again, Shi Jin'an puts her clever hands to work tailoring clothes and embroidering in this new world. She focuses on building her career and becomes a renowned talent for miles around. So many people come to ask for her hand that they're practically wearing down her doorstep.

Just as she's thriving, her utterly infuriating boss, Pei Qingxian, shows up.

"Xiao Shi, come help me catch the piglets!"

"Xiao Shi, tell me about your plan for weeding."

"Xiao Shi, I'll give you twenty cents if you cook for me every day."

Shi Jin'an raises an eyebrow. "Excuse me, did you forget that you're now the village good-for-nothing? What makes you think you can talk to me like that?"

Having gone from a high-and-mighty boss to a good-for-nothing everyone despises, Pei Qingxian has no choice but to cling to Shi Jin'an as his lifeline!
