I was scrolling through videos today and happened to see the story of Athena and Medusa. It made me furious. Why blame women? Why make women compete against each other? Why assume men did nothing wrong? Why would even the Twelve Goddesses envy someone else's beauty? Is competing against other women all that's left for women? It made me so mad that I wrote this after watching the video! It's a little rough, honestly, because I've been getting furious lately over so many videos I've come across.
Theme: Rejecting competition between women
In Greek mythology Medusa was born a Gorgon. Not a priest of Athena. According to the Roman poet Ovid's "Metamorphoses", Medusa was originally a beautiful girl who was raped by the sea god Neptune (corresponding to Poseidon in Greek mythology) in the temple of Minerva (corresponding to Athena in Greek mythology). She first appeared in this Roman poem and is not found in ancient Greek documents.
