Chu Yue is a male insect. Though his family looks down on him because of his low mental strength, he still marries his childhood sweetheart, a female insect from a powerful family, making countless people jealous.
He doesn't care. Instead, he devotes himself to treating his female spouse well, shedding his timid, pampered nature because he doesn't want Gu Qinghe to look down on him.
Until his spouse and his former beloved conspire to trick him into a laboratory, where they forcibly extract his bone marrow and gland. As he lies on the brink of death, he finally understands: his lover is a military female who despises males and has never loved him. She agreed to marry him only as a cover for her own ambition.
Gu Qinghe develops a drug that can calm female insects. From then on, male insects lose their supreme status. Their gold, silver, and various privileges are confiscated, and they become female insects' playthings, reduced to lowly slaves and even humiliated in public.
Meanwhile, his lover is celebrated as a great hero of equality.
As for him, the hero's male spouse, Gu Qinghe puts him on display for other insects to torment and degrade for their amusement. When he is about to be forced, he detonates the bomb on his body, dying in the flames along with the others.
When Chu Yue opens his eyes again, he has been reborn thirty years later. He is now a male insect disguised as a female, but his tall build and naturally incomplete gland have fooled every insect.
An ordinary face, an ordinary rank, ordinary in every way.
He stares at the screen, at the former beloved who has become a movie star, and at Gu Qinghe, now a decorated military hero. The malice in his heart consumes him.
No matter the cost,
he will make sure they never recover.
Note: The gong is handsome, strong, and has a tragic past. He's calculating and twisted, weak in the beginning but powerful later. After being reborn, his mind will be a little warped, but he'll hide it.
The main shou doesn't appear until the middle of the story. He's a military female who's fierce to everyone else and devoted to the gong. The story roughly follows this path: talent show, academy, military. The gong will not debut as an entertainer.
The social order of the insect world will not undergo further drastic upheaval. Male insects will gain freedom, and males and females will overcome their differences in rank and the barriers between them, achieving true equality.
The cannon-fodder shou and the former lover from before his rebirth both love the gong, but their feelings are unrequited. There will be a chase-your-spouse-to-the-crematorium arc and a tragic bad ending.
