[Cool, mixed-race genius boy x optimistic, romantic top student girl] Meng Jie is a genius. He has a complete, self-consistent set of behavioral rules, and whenever I’m involved, those rules take a perverted turn. Meng Jie is dangerous. After confessing to me, he invited me skydiving. We leapt from a height of 4,000 meters, with the wind roaring in our ears, the sky spread upside down beneath our feet, and the world shrunk above our heads. He said, “That’s what my heart felt like when I confessed.” Meng Jie is also a mixed-race pretty boy who gets away with anything. In the faint morning light, sitting on the moss-green sofa at my place in a white T-shirt and playing with the cat, he looks like a painting by an Impressionist. So when I tried to break up with him, I ran into unprecedented difficulties. The unserious version: I heard you two grew up together? Yan, Meng: We’re not close. I heard you two are dating? Yan, Meng: We’re not close. I heard you’re living together? Yan, Meng: We’re not close. Not long afterward: I heard you two broke up? Yan and Meng look at each other: one has a split lip, the other has marks hidden beneath their collar. Their secret relationship, which had gone in the opposite direction, comes back to haunt them in a way neither expected. #LoveAfterDating #RivalsPretendingToDate #TheySeemToBeTogetherButActuallyHaveNoClaimOnEachOther, PossessivenessThroughTheRoof “Her father was a physicist. He once pointed to the stars and moon and told her: Sweetheart, let’s talk about the conservation of energy in the universe. I know you’re terrible at physics, but the first law of thermodynamics tells us that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. In this world made of atoms, matter can only be recycled or rearranged, never truly created or destroyed. You know how much Daddy loves you, but I can’t always be there with you, so I’m always afraid you don’t know enough. Every feather, every fin, every petal you see is proof of Daddy’s love for you. The moon is, too.” To everyone reading this: You have your own moon, feathers, fins, and petals. They’ll never disappear. They come from the love of family, partners, friends, and kind strangers who cross your path. Reader’s Guide: One-on-one pairing, happy ending. Both leads shine in their respective fields. Both leads are over eighteen. The school-life portions contain plenty of fan-created material. Theme: I love my teacher, but I love truth even more
