Once, she was the daughter of a noble family. He was the son of an official. They lived among the powerful and privileged, but their innocent youth could not withstand the wear and tear of time. In the end, all they could do was look back:
"I remember the grand house from long ago,
When we roamed the streets of the capital.
The old alley remains when I return,
But those far away leave my heart in sorrow."
The past is too painful to look back on. Not that it is too painful to remember, but when you do, you realize you can never go back. The people and events of those days have all changed so much that time seems to have flown by, and the years have brought no peace. After everything they've been through, all they have left are these two truths: "Nothing is lovelier than a young girl's first bloom, and nothing is more cherished than the days of youth."
