On the eve of Qixi Festival, the live variety show We Who Don't Know How to Fall in Love announced its new guest stars.
Gu Lian, an award-winning actor who had always put his career first, was among them.
When viewers saw him enter the livestream holding hands with Li Yang, a newly prominent actress, they cried out:
Impossible! This absolutely can't be real!
Everyone knew Gu Lian's fans couldn't stand Li Yang. A publicity stunt! It had to be a publicity stunt!
Though that was what people said, most still rushed into the livestream to watch the drama unfold. So many people showed up that they nearly crashed the server.
As expected, the two stars were very restrained on camera. They didn't touch at all, and Gu Lian even snapped at Li Yang while they were cooking.
Just as viewers were cheering that justice had been done, the guests took off their microphones to rest and the livestream went dark. Then an intimate conversation suddenly came through.
"Teacher Gu, you were so harsh just now." The young woman spoke softly.
"You got splashed with hot oil and didn't even move. Are you Iron Man?" The man sighed helplessly. "Give me your hand."
The livestream picked up the sound of a packet being opened.
"Does it hurt a lot?" the man asked again.
"No..."
Halfway through her reply, the young woman realized what was happening and hurriedly covered her mouth. "Gu Lian! You forgot to take off your mic!"
A low chuckle drifted to her ear. The man's voice was clear and mellow. "I didn't forget."
He even sounded a little smug.
"I did it on purpose."
