The Princess and the Dog

The spoiled princess Chu Xinyi kept a mute dog. The dog was obedient and well-behaved, and would bite whoever she told him to.

The dog's body was always icy cold, but the princess insisted on making fun of him, naming him Xie Buhan. "My feet get cold. From now on, you'll warm them for me."

Xie Buhan knelt at her feet with his head bowed, slowly warming them in his hands.

The eighth day of the twelfth lunar month was supposed to be a day for family reunions. But the princess's dynasty collapsed overnight, and a hundred thousand rebels surrounded the capital. The frail princess hugged her dog. "I only have you. Will you come die with me?"

Her dog said nothing, but she saw with her own eyes the rebels behind him kneeling at his feet. "Your Highness."

The princess went mad in an instant. "You lied to me!" Then she leaped from the tower like a kite with its string cut.

Unfortunately, she didn't die. Worse still, she lost her memory.

When she awoke, she gazed through layer upon layer of gauze curtains at an unfamiliar young man, her long lashes fluttering innocently. "Who are you?"

The young man knelt at her feet and warmed them in his hands. "Princess, my name is Xie Buhan. I'm your dog."

A wicked woman and her dog.
