On his first day at the police academy, Isono Arashi realized that things here weren't quite what he'd expected.
On the first day of classes, the moment he walked into the cafeteria, flying ingredients and classmates darting all over the place nearly knocked him over.
"Zero, chop two portions of celery! We've only got a minute left!"
"There's a fire! I'll put it out first. Isono, could you wash a plate for me?"
Isono Arashi, singled out by the top student in the year: Making our own food in the cafeteria is one thing, but what's with the car speeding past us? Is it too late for me to drop out?
The next day, during driving class, the moment they opened the car door, the police car turned into a truck.
"Today's lesson is transporting ten tons of explosives over 900 kilometers. Make sure you follow the traffic rules. Hagiwara, stop looking around. I'm talking to you!"
Isono Arashi, who should have been in the back seat but was now in the cargo bed: We said we'd take turns driving as a group. Why do I have a bad feeling about this... Wait, stop speeding up! The cargo's sliding around!
Then one day in general studies, they were given a budget of 10,000 yen and assigned a simulation: build a bridge, transport supplies, and get the team across the river.
"This material looks good. We can save some money and get by with 1,000 yen. We'll just launch them across... All right, the car shouldn't crash too hard."
"Oh, yeah! Then it's all yours, Matsuda! We'll use the extra money to treat Isono to a mixer tonight!"
Isono Arashi, a test subject about to be launched across the river in a 360-degree flip: Matsuda, do you hear yourself? Class rep, can you please do something?
The absurdly packed curriculum made his classmates' already impressive skill sets even more impressive. Watching them show off practical skills, Isono Arashi could only look on in envy, his own "100% accuracy at tossing vegetables into a pot" skill seeming pathetic by comparison.
So when they repeatedly made the news and came back unharmed, their colleagues were all shocked, but Isono Arashi wasn't surprised at all.
Later, when Isono Arashi returned to the organization to report on his mission, the boss asked how strong their opponents were.
After thinking for a long time, Isono Arashi earnestly advised him, "Boss, the other side has cheats. We should surrender."
After all, if they didn't surrender soon, those good classmates of his would be showing up right on his doorstep
Reading guide:
1. Parallel world. The organization and the police both have lots of original worldbuilding. No fictional characters are in any danger in the games. The protagonist is probably the only person with common sense at this mutant police academy. At heart, this is absurd, silly comedy. Any out-of-character moments are on me.
2. The story is expected to feature many well-known and lesser-known games. It starts with a series of challenges and later moves on to the group teaming up to defeat the boss.
3. Primarily Detective Conan, no pairings. The protagonist is a mole who waters down his own drink. Characters from other slice-of-life series may also make cameo appearances.
Theme: Heaven helps those who help themselves. Hard work pays off
