Oda Sakunosuke died in the arms of a friend. When he opened his eyes again, he had arrived in another world.
There were no supernatural abilities here, and people lived peacefully, though for some reason the death rate was remarkably high.
After explaining who-knows-how-many times that his name wasn't an alias, Oda Sakunosuke spotted an author with the same name as him on the classics shelf at a bookstore.
Oda Sakunosuke: My eyes are shaking!
The familiar names from his old world had all become the names of strange authors on the shelves!
No matter what, life had to go on. A penniless man without identification had no choice but to return to his old line of work: becoming a low-level member of the Black Organization. He cleaned up crime scenes, then went home after work to write novels. Life was fairly peaceful.
For some reason, this world also had a bar called Lupin. So every day he lived alone, drinking by himself and missing his friends.
One day, as Oda read a work by Dazai Osamu from this world while drinking, he suddenly saw the figure of the bandaged boy from his old world appear in thin air!
Two time-space continuums had intersected, and he was the only one who could see it!
Unable to touch or speak to him, Oda could only watch as Dazai stubbornly sat in his usual seat after Oda's death, talking to himself and pouring his own drinks.
Not long afterward, he saw Ango arrive at a different time on purpose. Afraid to run into Dazai Osamu, Ango sat in his seat and gazed silently at a photograph for a long time.
Seeing his friends like this filled Oda with pain, but he was powerless to help.
He thought things would go on like this forever, until one day, while cleaning up a scene, he found someone on a rooftop who was barely clinging to life.
When the man woke up, he had lost his memory. He remembered only that his name was Hiromitsu Morofushi, that he was a police officer, and that his lifelong goal was to take down the Organization.
Oda: Huh? Does that mean I'll be out of a job? Then I won't have money for drinks, and I won't be able to see Dazai and Ango anymore!
By chance, after completing a request from Hiromitsu Morofushi, Oda discovered some exciting news: he could gradually touch Dazai Osamu, and even send him messages!
Oda: !
Dazai Osamu: Is this a hallucination? Why does it look like I can see Oda...
And so, with Hiromitsu Morofushi acting on behalf of the Japanese Public Security Police and vouching for him, Oda became his agent and began climbing the ranks of the Organization.
Thanks to his exceptional fighting skills and keen sixth sense, he soon earned the Black Organization's respect. They even gritted their teeth and tolerated his odd refusal to kill.
As Oda spent more time with them, Dazai and Ango began getting together to help him plan. The relationship between the Buraiha seemed to return to the way it had been at the start.
Later, the Organization assigned him a partner: Bourbon, another support operative.
Bourbon had eight minds working at once and tested Oda again and again, but Oda always fended him off with guidance and his own natural instincts.
For some reason, Bourbon kept seeing the shadow of his deceased friend in this newcomer, and couldn't help wanting to get closer to him.
But the man's inscrutable nature, shifting between dangerous and guileless, made Rei Furuya increasingly wary.
The real culprit, Dazai Osamu: Hehe!
Oda, who had read all sorts of strange books for inspiration: Could this be... a body-double romance?
Hiromitsu Morofushi (amnesiac): Bourbon? Who's that?
Then one day, as the mission to destroy the distillery progressed, Dazai Osamu suddenly crossed over.
Pointing at the innocent Hiromitsu Morofushi, Dazai (heartbroken): Oda, you've gone bad! You even brought someone else home!
Hiromitsu Morofushi: Don't drag me into this, thanks.
Oda: I'm sorry, Dazai. So, do you want to move in with me?
Dazai Osamu: Suddenly bashful.
Oda: By the way, when is Ango coming over?
Dazai: Forget about him!
Ango, who realized Oda stopped coming to the bar after Dazai crossed over: Hey!
[Bonus Scene]
Conan: Oda Sakunosuke?
Oda: Nods.
Conan: How are you more of a fan than I am? I don't even dare call Edogawa Ranpo by his real name!
Oda: Huh?
After he could communicate with Dazai:
Oda: Dazai, in this world, you're a writer.
Dazai: (A bad feeling.)
Oda: Ever since I was a child, I've always been looking for...
Dazai: Aaaaaah! Stop reading it!
No romance in the main story. The bonus chapters feature Oda and Dazai as a couple. If you don't like that, you can skip them and read the story as a tale of the Buraiha's friendship.
Oda's interactions with Dazai and Ango develop gradually, with Dazai's progress faster than Ango's.
The writers in the Detective Conan world are ordinary, but Oda won't stop writing.
(Preliminary blurb, to be revised.)
