Please Water the Little Sapling

[A post-apocalyptic sci-fi story with a tiny protagonist. The title and blurb may be tweaked slightly before it begins.]

The apocalypse arrives, and species mutate.

Mu Mu is a mutated seed buried in the desert. With no water, he has never been able to sprout.

Just as he is on the brink of death, a human squad passes by, and one of the men gives him some water.

Not only does Mu Mu survive, he also grows a tiny sapling.

Carefully carrying the sapling, he enters a military base and finds the man. "General, this is the tree you raised."

The general: "?"

Mu Mu doesn't know that the sapling will wither if separated from its main body. Watching the lifeless plant, his own heart withers too.

The general comforts him. "Maybe you watered it the wrong way."

"Let's try another method."

Mu Mu: "What method?"

The general: "I'll water it."

Mu Mu: "???"

Qi Cang thought Mu Mu was just a mutated little tree. He never expected him to be the hope of all humanity.
