Excerpt 1:
One night, just before bed, Li Meng thinks of delicious fried potatoes. She tosses and turns all night, unable to sleep. After a struggle, she gets up, sneaks downstairs to the kitchen, and starts frying potatoes.
Before long, they're ready. She carries them to the dining table and is about to sit down when she realizes they're missing the final touch: spring onions. She gets up and goes to the doorway, where a pot of wild onions is growing.
When Li Meng returns to the living room with the onions, she sees a boy in his pajamas sitting in her seat, wolfing down the potatoes.
"Ah! Lou Jinxi, you little brat! Put those down!" Seeing her midnight snack about to disappear, Li Meng rushes to the table, grabs the boy by the ear, and roars.
"Ow, ow! Sister Meng, I'm sorry..." the boy cries out, begging for mercy.
"Too late, you little brat! How many times have you stolen my food?" Thinking about all the delicious food he'd stolen from her before, Li Meng twists his ear even harder.
Excerpt 2:
"Run!" Lou Jinxi and Chu Li leap over the courtyard wall, grab Liu Ruo, who's waiting on the other side, and take off.
"Huff, huff... Why are we running so fast? They can't have noticed already, right? Have you two gotten rusty?" Liu Ruo asks, gasping for breath.
"We just raided their treasure vault. If we don't run now, when will we?" Lou Jinxi says smugly, then speeds up again.
"The treasure vault? Jinxi, I have to say, you're incredible!" Liu Ruo says, speeding up to catch up with them.
