Self-Redemption

"Hey, have you heard?"

"Minister Pei's concubine, the former Seventh Young Lady of the Li family, jumped into the lake. Her body was in the water all night and didn't surface until the next morning. Minister Pei went out of his mind and sat motionless with her body in his arms for three days and three nights, before finally collapsing. Minister Pei is terribly worried and personally went to fetch Imperial Physician Zhang. Nobody knows whether Minister Pei is alive or dead even now."

"But isn't Minister Pei supposed to marry his new bride today?"

"With all this commotion, the wedding is probably off..."

"What a pity for those two ill-fated lovers, separated by Minister Pei's interference..."

Please note: This is a tragic ending. A short story. Don't read if that's not for you.
