Scheming, wicked, and debauched shou × gentle, restrained, green-tea gong (The gong once wanted to become a monk and grew up in a temple. The first time they met, he was wearing a monk's robe, so the shou called him a monk. He actually isn't one, and never becomes one.)
Xiao was born wicked, with no sense of right or wrong. After being recruited by the heavenly realm, he lived quite happily as a lucky beast.
After ten thousand years without causing trouble, he got restless and secretly slipped into the lotus pond, eating the lotus seed that was about to become the eyes of the Lotus Deity. He was banished to the mortal realm and could return only after suffering enough.
Bored, he came across someone who had every trait he disliked. Even after many reincarnations, that person's wicked nature never changed. He egged on a wolf demon to tear out the man's heart and secretly stirred up conflict between him and the demon race. Just after Shishu had come down from the mountain, he was forced to kneel and bleed.
Yet each time Xiao's schemes were about to succeed and Shishu was on the verge of death, Xiao would inexplicably save him, again and again.
Shishu knew nothing of any of it. He regarded the mastermind as his savior and treated him as a close friend.
Feng Xiao pursed his lips. He hated people as pure as this, and wanted to stain that crystal-clear soul.
Seeing that matters here were settled and Shishu was about to leave, he used the long and dangerous journey to the capital as an excuse to keep Shishu by his side, then looked for a way to destroy his pure heart.
Unexpectedly, the two of them accidentally entered a forbidden domain on the way and were cursed with a spring spell by a spirit. They spent several days tangled together. After they emerged, Feng Xiao never could have guessed that the spirit's blessing, wishing them an early child, wasn't a curse at all. It was the truth.
Just as he was fretting over what to do, the demon race opened a passage to the mortal realm. He watched the deity, now in human form, tell Shishu that someone had to sacrifice themselves. The corner of his mouth lifted. His chance had come.
If he sacrificed his own flesh and blood and his friend, surely he could kindle the flames of hatred in that crystal-clear heart. So what if his spirit and soul were destroyed?
But in the instant his consciousness faded, even he couldn't tell whether this was just another idle scheme in his long life as a beast, or whether he simply didn't want that fool to die.
He had expected to be utterly obliterated, body and soul. He never imagined he could wake again.
Dazed, he listened as the deity recounted his accomplishments, but a tightness weighed on his heart. He left the endlessly chattering deities behind and rushed to the mortal realm, only to find not a trace of Shishu. He was miserable for hundreds of years.
One day, a friend invited him to the Western Paradise to see the newly grown Bodhi tree. There he came across a lost child, sitting beneath a tree and crying, with white hair and golden eyes. The familiar feeling made him stop and ask what was wrong.
Before they could exchange more than a couple of words, a gentle voice sounded beside them. "Xiao Xiao, didn't I tell you to wait right here for me?"
Xiao turned in astonishment, saw that familiar face, and ran off in fright.
The Deity came searching for him with the child in tow: "Daddy, don't you want me and our son anymore?"
