The World of Quyi

This is a story about traditional crosstalk returning to the small theaters.

In the mid-1990s, traditional crosstalk began to decline for various reasons, and crosstalk performers started switching careers one after another. Jiang Jianbang, born into a crosstalk family, always held fast to his principles as a folk artist. His son, Jiang Hongwen, had planned to give up crosstalk and work at the company of his maternal uncle, Duan Jiaqi. But after taking part in a crosstalk competition, he signed with a cultural troupe and became a star in the crosstalk world. To help his father Jiang Jianbang carry out his plan to have someone organize old routines, Jiang Hongwen found Xiaohai, a talented contestant who had withdrawn from the competition. Xiaohai not only finished organizing the old routines, but, with the help of the already famous Jiang Hongwen, also helped Jiang Jianbang fulfill his dream of bringing crosstalk back to the small theater. They named it Yunxiao Hall. Yunxiao Hall's growth seemed smooth, but hidden complications lurked beneath the surface. Jiang Jianbang had been deeply affected by his father being betrayed during the □□ era by a former disciple, Meng Guangye, now head of the cultural troupe, and had never taken on a disciple. For the sake of the Jiang family and the future of Yunxiao Hall, Jiang Jianbang took Xiaohai as his disciple on his deathbed, naming him Jiang Chengen, and left him sixty percent of Yunxiao Hall's shares. But this displeased Jiang Hongwen. Jiang Hongwen discovered that Meng Guangye and Jiang Chengen were bound by a sworn father-son relationship...
