I Need Someone to Marry

Because of his family's influence, the Alpha needs someone to marry. He hopes his spouse will be career-oriented, won't need him to keep them company, and won't get pregnant.

He hears his family has found him a Beta to marry. After meeting him, the Alpha realizes the Beta fits all his requirements perfectly. He's satisfied, and the two soon get married, becoming a model couple in a loveless marriage.

After they marry, they treat each other with mutual respect. The Beta fulfills his duties as a husband: he cooks for the Alpha, waits for him after work so they can go home together, gives him gifts on their anniversaries, and promptly injects him with suppressants and takes care of him when the Alpha goes into rut.

This is a perfect spouse. The Alpha gradually becomes addicted to their happy domestic life and never gets tired of it.

Little by little, the Alpha starts to grow dissatisfied. Why is the Beta's expression always so cool? Why doesn't the Beta need him around at all? Why can't the Beta be marked?

Then, during another rut, they run out of suppressants at home. The Alpha grabs the flustered Beta and cries out in frustration, "When are you ever going to look at me?"

Because of his family, the Beta needs someone to marry. He figures that as long as his spouse doesn't interfere with his work, force him to have children, or need him around, then he can accept a marriage of convenience without love.

He hears his family has found him an Alpha. The Beta worries the Alpha will be an overbearing macho type, but to his surprise, they are completely on the same page about marriage when they meet. He's satisfied, and the two soon get married.

After they marry, the Alpha gives him all his salary to spend, promptly deals with gossip trying to ride his coattails, comes home on time, praises his cooking, and brings him to banquets, introducing him to everyone as his partner.

Clearly, this is a perfect spouse. The Beta is a little moved, but because of their prenuptial agreement, he chooses to keep his feelings buried. When the time is right and they separate, he'll be a good ex and wish the other person luck in finding their soulmate.

But the longer they spend together, the harder it becomes for him to let go.

Then the Alpha goes into rut. The Beta shamefully plays a little trick, hiding the suppressants they have left and telling the Alpha they've run out. When the Alpha grabs him and holds him close, he closes his eyes.
