Duan Lin loved He Chen for seven years, going from a flirtatious playboy to someone devoted to a single person. He gave him all his love, only to receive nothing but lies in return.
For seven years, he had been treated as a stand-in. Every broken promise and every moment of impatience had been nothing but an excuse for He Chen to pursue the person he truly loved.
The cruel truth only came to light when Duan Lin was on the verge of death.
When he opened his eyes again, Duan Lin had returned to the past. This time, he would make He Chen pay the price he deserved!
At their first meeting, he arranged a chance encounter and deliberately approached him. He held out a hand, the corner of his lips curling into a smile. “Hello, I’m Duan Lin.”
With a similar expression and a similar air about him, Duan Lin bewitched He Chen in an instant.
At their next meeting, Duan Lin laid his plans step by step, keeping He Chen on tenterhooks. A beckoning finger, a whispered breath, a glance over his shoulder... every seductive gesture came naturally to him. In no time at all, he had captured He Chen’s heart.
At a banquet, Duan Lin turned a plot against him to his own advantage. Avoiding everyone, he made his way step by step to He Chen.
“A Chen, you’re A Chen...”
His trembling murmur made He Chen’s eyes redden and drove him out of his mind. He even confessed his feelings to Duan Lin.
Dating, moving in together... As Duan Lin watched He Chen grow more and more besotted, he wore a smile like a poppy flower. Just as He Chen was about to reach the pinnacle of happiness, Duan Lin sent him plummeting into the depths!
He Chen, this time it’s your turn to suffer.
Everyone who knew He Chen knew he had loved his unrequited love for nearly ten years.
The people who came and went from his life all bore some resemblance to that person, but none of them ever quite measured up.
Until the night He Chen met Duan Lin.
Refined and elegant, composed and poised, yet utterly captivating.
A perfect substitute.
Duan Lin drew him in step by step, making him fall. He Chen thought he was in control, but he had already fallen into the trap Duan Lin had carefully laid.
He lost his person, and he lost his heart.
In a restaurant, He Chen watched Duan Lin kiss someone else. In an instant, his eyes turned red.
“Come back with me!”
Duan Lin ruthlessly shook off his grip and shot back with a mocking laugh.
“Mr. He, what’s wrong? Can’t take it?”

Blurb:
A frail, beautiful emperor on the receiving end x a ruthless, obsessive powerful official on the attacking end
Xie Xi, courtesy name Shu Qiao, was the ninth son of Emperor Yuande of Southern Liang.
Born to the empress, he was doted on by the emperor. He was handsome and beautiful, and his talent was second to none.
He should have been the crown prince, acclaimed by all and loved by countless people. But when he was seven, he was poisoned. From then on, he was bedridden, his body wasting away.
The imperial physicians once said Xie Xi would not live to see twenty. Everyone thought he had no chance of succeeding to the throne. Yet overnight, everything changed, the dynasty fell, and the sickly prince who seemed least likely to succeed became the new emperor.
Rumors flew, with many implying that Xie Xi had come by the throne through illegitimate means. It was only when Prince Qi, Pei Yue, produced an imperial edict and suppressed the opposition with an iron fist that the protests finally quieted.
Pei Yue should have been a favored minister of the new dynasty, rewarded for helping Xie Xi take the throne. Instead, Xie Xi berated him in court for his treasonous conduct and sentenced him to thirty strokes of the cane. Yet night after night, it was the new emperor who was “flogged.”
On the bed, red silk covered Xie Xi’s eyes and black silk bound his hands. Unable to break free, all he could do was let the tears at the corners of his eyes soak the silk.
“Pei Yue, I am the new emperor. You dare!”
Pei Yue laughed boldly at his words, his hands growing ever bolder.
“Your Majesty must have forgotten. I’ve done it all: defied my sovereign, usurped power, and seized the throne.”
“And when it comes to you, Your Majesty, what would I not dare?”
*
The common folk said Prince Qi Pei Yue was a flood and a beast, a man with a beauty’s face and a demon’s heart.
People throughout the capital went out of their way to avoid him, yet Xie Xi faced him head-on and knocked on the gates of Prince Qi’s residence.
In the pouring rain, Xie Xi stood alone in the courtyard, bowing low as he pleaded in a trembling voice, “I only ask that Your Highness Prince Qi lend me your aid. Whatever the price, Shu Qiao will not fear it!”
Inside the main hall, Pei Yue sat leaning back in black robes. The instant he looked up, dark currents surged in his eyes.
“Since that is so, Your Highness the Ninth Prince must remember what you said today. Remember it until the day you die.”
He harbored wolfish ambitions and schemed at every turn. Now that Xie Xi had stepped into this cage, he could only remain trapped in Pei Yue’s grasp for the rest of his life.
After all, Pei Yue had become obsessed with this aloof beauty on the very first day he arrived in the capital, and could never forget him.
