Unlike most families in Hawkins, Helen never had to worry about food, clothing, or other necessities as she was growing up. Of course, she paid a price for it, because that was how her mother bought her freedom.
Unlike most families in Hawkins, Helen and her father had been abandoned by her mother when Helen was ten.
Unlike most children in Hawkins, Helen became friends with Byers, the most withdrawn boy around.
Helen had always wondered why Jonathan, her childhood playmate, thought she had no sense of direction. She was good at finding her way, and Jonathan of all people should have known that.
Later, she realized Jonathan was right. She would spend her life wandering and losing her way on the road home.
Jonathan was often right. He didn't like talking to people, but he saw through things better than most. While she was still struggling with the delicate nature of their relationship, Jonathan, who had already figured out his own feelings, directly tore away the veil hanging over them.
"I'm not your brother, Helen."
I've only watched the first season so far. I'll try not to change anything from the original except the romance plotline (if a character I really like dies, though, that's another matter).
Just a little daydream about the taciturn, gloomy Jonathan.
Theme: Maybe it's a story about saving each other?
