Synopsis
Introductory summary: This is the story of a heroine holding the script of the favored second male lead, and a hero holding the script of a heroine who gets put through the wringer.

At first, Yao Yu paid it no mind. It never expected Si Xuan and the little demon to grow closer by the day. The little demon was as lovely as a lotus rising from clear water, and her smile was as sweet as honey. Her mischievous ways gradually wore down Si Xuan's boundaries.
Little by little, they went everywhere together and shared their meals and lodging. Yao Yu was no longer the only one who could get close to Si Xuan. The little demon could even stand closer to him than Yao Yu could.
When Yao Yu brought it up, Si Xuan's explanation was: She is only my maid.
Later, Yao Yu's bloodline tribulation arrived. Si Xuan had promised to help, but he failed to show up because he was dealing with a mess caused by the little demon. Fortunately, at the last moment, Jiu Shu, an Immortal Lord famed throughout the Immortal Realm for his gentle disposition, came to the rescue. Yao Yu was spared a grave injury and a long slumber.

When it walked through the Immortal Realm again, all it heard were stories of Si Xuan and the little demon, Bai Ye, sharing a love that would withstand anything. Yao Yu became a laughingstock.
Unwilling to accept it, Yao Yu took its anger out on the little demon. The little demon was rescued time and again, while Yao Yu gradually became someone everyone despised. It lost all its cultivation, and its final drop of divine blood was forcibly taken to save the little demon.
Si Xuan told her: That was Xiao Ye's to begin with.
After waking from the dream, Yao Yu found the whole thing absurd. It decided to give up on Si Xuan, but he came after it again, saying he could not bear for them to part and go their separate ways. He even insisted on forging a bond with Yao Yu and becoming immortal partners.
Yao Yu could not resist and was forced into the bond. But on the very day they were to become partners, Si Xuan abandoned it once again and left to save the little demon. Facing the various looks from those around it, Yao Yu felt no shame at all. It smiled and held out its hand to Jiu Shu, who stood nearby. "Let's go."

A note before reading:
The male lead's true form is a divine stone without a gender. When it comes of age, it gets one chance to choose a gender. Once chosen, that gender is fixed and cannot be casually changed. In the original story, the male lead chose a female body when he came of age. This time, of course, he chooses a male body. Yes, it's an absurd setup like that. See the main story for details.
Before the male lead comes of age, I use 'it' to refer to him, because both 'he' and 'she' feel jarring to me. Sorry, I couldn't find a more suitable way to write it. If you have a better suggestion, feel free to share it, and I can change it.
Important: The heroine is a villain-type heroine. For a long time at the beginning, readers may think she is an upright and decent Immortal Lord, or even think she is totally incompetent and a pathetic sucker, which does not fit the setup. In reality, this woman is not a good person at all. I'm warning everyone here in the blurb so nobody feels deceived later.
First, to be clear, this is a straight romance, not a story about pure love or a girls' love story. The male lead will be rather androgynous before coming of age, and his personality will change somewhat afterward. But scenes between him and the original male lead may make some readers mix up the characters, so feel free to give it a try, and if you can't accept it, quit in time.
The original male lead is the strongest, and the heroine is second, so she definitely cannot beat him at first. The original leads will keep stirring things up until almost the very end. At its core, this is a story where the original male lead is put through the wringer and left in the dust. He will suffer emotionally and physically. The plot follows the usual formula, except the genders of the male and female leads have been switched. That's all.
