The whole city of Shanjian was alive with song and dance. No one mourned the loss of his daughter. He wondered whether he ought to go on strike. At least then this band of murderous thugs and their idle onlookers would be unable to get drunk. Just then, he heard a sob coming from the air vent of the water prison. Jiuyou. He had never dared greet her before, for fear of being accused of colluding with the enemy. Now he no longer cared.

“Even someone as perceptive as you can’t escape being trapped by the past?”

“Deep in my heart I keep her. How could I ever forget?” Jiuyou replied. The wine cellar master felt a little better knowing someone else was suffering just as he was, so he poured two buckets of “Gut-Rotting Wine” down the air vent, hoping it would cheer her up.
