Republican Era: First Married, Then Fell in Love with a Peking Opera Master

[Dark, manipulative, and pretending to be a helpless little flower: top] [Upright, gentle, handsome, and wearing rimless glasses: bottom]

[Side couple: Gentle, composed college student: top] [Sly, tsundere heiress: bottom]

Lin Xun's siblings have all died. Her scumbag father, who once threw her out because he thought she brought bad luck to the family, has no choice but to take her back.

First, he wants her to inherit the family business. Second, he wants her to marry Bai Qingci.

Bai Qingci is a Peking opera star who was famous throughout half of Jiazhou. Two years ago, she returned to Yancheng and switched to Cantonese opera.

To Lin Xun's surprise, her scumbag father took a liking to Bai Qingci.

Lin Xun agrees.

She desperately needs money. It doesn't matter to her even when Bai Qingci says she's a woman.

·

Bai Qingci has always felt guilty toward Lin Xun.

So when Lin Xun wants to wrest control from her scumbag father, Bai Qingci helps. When Lin Xun wants kisses and cuddles, Bai Qingci agrees. When Lin Xun wants more, she gives in to that, too.

But Lin Xun, ambitious as she is, wants to destroy Yancheng. Bai Qingci can't do that. People say actors are heartless, but who could be more heartless than Lin Xun?

·

On the day Lin Xun leaves Yancheng, Bai Qingci goes to see her off.

After hesitating for a long time, she asks whether Lin Xun ever loved her.

She remembers Lin Xun smiling and saying, "Bai Qingci, I was born to belong to the darkness. All I can do is sink into it."

·

Later, the two meet again in Jiazhou. Bai Qingci is still adored by everyone, while Lin Xun corners her backstage, eyes red. "I never gave you my answer that day."

"Does it matter?" Bai Qingci gazes at her with a faint, unreadable smile. "It doesn't anymore."
