Three years later, Gu Heping unexpectedly runs into Fang Zhiyu at the airport after returning to China.

Fang Zhiyu is still radiant, but she no longer looks at him with the tender affection she once did.

Gu Heping makes polite conversation as if nothing is amiss. “Long time no see. I just got back from a trade show and picked up a little something for my wife.”

Fang Zhiyu smiles, refusing to be outdone. “What a coincidence. I just got back from a trade show too, and I’m about to pick out a tie for my husband.”

Gu Heping’s jaw tightens. After a moment, he nods and gives her a tight-lipped farewell.

Gu Heping is drinking with a friend when he opens Fang Zhiyu’s social media feed.

Gu Heping asks his friend, “If a woman never mentions her husband on social media, does that mean she and her husband aren’t getting along?”

His friend gives him a sideways look. “I don’t know if it means she and her husband aren’t getting along, but it definitely means you want to be the backup.”

*They rekindle their relationship, though neither the male lead nor the female lead actually married anyone else.
