After Fleeing with the Hostage Prince

Pei Zi was the most inconspicuous nobody in the palace of the Shang Empire, confined to a corner as if she had been born to be forgotten.

On the night of the coup, flames devoured the red palace walls, and no one cared whether she lived or died. Only Su Bona, a hostage prince from the Ji Dynasty, charged into the ruins with fiery determination and forcibly pulled up the girl sitting cross-legged, lost in meditation.

The girl was naive and timid, forced to cling to this one lifeline.

During their escape, Pei Zi proceeded with caution. She worried that Su Bona might be a villain who would cost her her life, yet also feared he might abandon her halfway. Having never set foot in the outside world, she knew she would never survive on her own. With no other choice, she followed close behind, while secretly keeping her distance.

Su Bona, however, thought the little palace maid he'd picked up was gentle and obedient, like a little shadow who only knew how to nod.

When he occasionally teased her, she would blush and answer in a voice as soft as a mosquito's buzz. She was adorable.

And so, their escape, which should have been fraught with danger, somehow turned into a leisurely sightseeing trip.

Until the gates of the Ji Kingdom came into view.

What awaited him was not the joy of a long-awaited reunion, but his horrified parents kneeling and begging him to return to the Shang Empire at once for the sake of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

And what he least expected was that Pei Zi would take it upon herself to escort the runaway hostage prince back to his homeland.

So it had all been wishful thinking on his part...
