Even Death Wants to Fall in Love

Gan Mian is a new-generation Grim Reaper.

With no boss above him to keep him in check and no underlings following him, he captures evil spirits alone when he feels like it, and occasionally drops by the underworld for a visit.

Recently, while visiting the underworld, he got an eyeful of Black and White Impermanence showing off their affection. Turning around, he spotted a man by the Bridge of Meng Po, and Gan Mian fell in love at first sight.

Meng Po said, "This man has suffered through seven miserable lives. After turning dark and growing weary of the world, he committed countless evils. He should have his soul scattered and be wiped from existence."

Gan Mian glanced at her. "I want to date him."

Meng Po: "..."

Meng Po said, "Then help him become a good person, do good deeds, and spread kindness and justice."

With the aim of dating him, Gan Mian gradually set about correcting the worldview and way of thinking of his future partner.

But the more he tried to set him straight... the more he felt that his future partner still wasn't quite right.

First Life.

In an abandoned building where no one ever came, in a dim and desolate restroom, Du Liuguang saw only the moonlight, pure and bright like frost congealed on the ground.

He narrowed his eyes at Gan Mian, who had suddenly appeared. Under the moonlight, Gan Mian cast no shadow.

Yet he suddenly smiled and called out, "Little Ancestor."

Second Life.

A cool breeze blew across the rooftop in the early morning. Eight- or nine-year-old Ning Tinghan met Gan Mian for the first time that year and felt as if he'd found his favorite toy.

When they met again at twenty, dark thoughts began to sprout in his mind. All he wanted was to make sure Gan Mian never left him again.

He even reached out and pleaded in a soft voice, "Could you give me a hug?"

Third Life. Shi Ziling, trapped in an online game, accidentally stumbled into a dungeon that had never been discovered before.

Gan Mian, dressed in a black cloak, looked down at him.

Later, Shi Ziling gazed at him with deep devotion. "You are just like a beautiful dream."

In the fourth life, the despised and reviled little prince...

In the fifth life, the young son abandoned by space pirates...

Only after seven lifetimes did Gan Mian see that familiar yet unfamiliar man again.

He felt as if he'd seen that exquisite white robe before, its sleeves embroidered with dark gold thread and a lifelike phoenix that seemed ready to soar into the sky.

Di Fu smiled at him. "I've been waiting for you."

In that instant, Gan Mian's heart stirred. Strands of silver hair slipped out from beneath his cloak. He leaned in, his crimson lips landing on the tiny mole beneath Di Fu's eye.

As if sealed memories were rushing toward him, all he could say was, "I think I had a very, very long dream."

Everyone said Di Fu was the most powerful, coldest, and proudest Heavenly Emperor of all time.

But the King of Hell and the others in the underworld knew that Di Fu had someone hidden in his heart.

Even the proudest Heavenly Emperor had once knelt before the underworld in anguish, all to protect one person's life.

Blood stained half the sky above the underworld, and would not fade for billions of years.

All creation mourned.
